    Pedreira

    2021

At the far end of a gently sloping plot, bordered by dry stone walls — remnants of old fields and paths — a sequence of volumes rises in cadence, ordering the space with an ancestral logic. At the edge of the site, a light timber roof rests upon the final wall, evoking the rural porches of old: minimal, generous gestures of shelter.

The constructive simplicity translates into a calm, almost intuitive organisation.
The choice of a modular timber system draws on local knowledge — structures assembled by hands that know the craft, using available materials and techniques passed down and adapted to the present. The roof, protected by asphalt sheeting, and façades clad in charred timber — dark like the old beams weathered by sun and rain — ensure durability and beauty. Over time, the patina does not signify decay, but rather celebrates the passing of the seasons and the dignity of ageing.

At the edge, a translucent brick wall stretches out like a silent membrane, defining the threshold between what is offered to the place and what is quietly held within.
