    Mortuary House

    2019

In the silence of Barrancos, deep in the Alentejo, a new structure rises: a mortuary house with two farewell rooms, conceived as a place of suspension — between earth and sky, between what has passed and what still lingers.

The entrance is made via a light and transparent walkway, gently lifting the visitor from the ground — a gesture of separation. It is the path of peace, marking, with subtlety, the growing distance between the living and those departing.

At the far end, a window invites the light. It is through this that one enters. On either side, two symmetrical farewell rooms — silent, restrained. At the end, an open balcony overlooks the vast landscape. A horizon. A final farewell.

This house is both heavy and light. A body anchored in memory and, at the same time, projected into time. Its structure sways in the present — solid enough to hold grief, light enough to let go.
