Piscinas La Concha
The proposal for La Concha-Compostela is based on the construction of a light, modular bathing infrastructure, closely integrated with the existing facilities and the beach’s patterns of use. The circular geometry of the base platform — strategically placed on the sand — organises the whole as a functional and symbolic centre, enhancing the public space while offering shelter, shade, and areas for rest. Its lightweight structure and minimal ground contact reduce interference with the terrain, lowering environmental impact and allowing for a reversible construction, in line with sustainable practices in coastal areas.
Above this base rises a shading structure composed of 60 modular parasols, with variable openings that filter sunlight throughout the day. Within the roofed area, the main elements of the bathing programme are concentrated: three public pools (recreational, splash, and hydromassage), showers, continuous benches, and access to a technical area. These are directly connected to the existing — now extended — toilet facilities and newly added support spaces. Externally, the project includes an entrance square, landscaped leisure areas, bicycle parking, a cycle path, and a running track, reinforcing integration with the soft mobility network and the broader beach infrastructure system. Construction employs local techniques, using prefabricated systems and natural materials resistant to marine environments (such as treated timber and galvanised metal structures), enabling swift assembly, easy maintenance, and future adaptability.
