Cabeço da Bola
The proposal for the new housing and commercial development at Largo do Cabeço da Bola, in Arroios, establishes a cohesive and adaptable urban core within Lisbon’s consolidated city centre. The intervention adopts a flexible and thoughtful approach, capable of responding to the city’s ongoing transformations and to emerging ways of living — both in the built form and in the surrounding public space.
The project is structured around an organic grid, using simple construction elements and an efficient typological system. The volumetric composition respects the surrounding morphology, contributing to urban continuity through a light and integrated expression. To ensure the unity of the intervention, all new volumes are clad in zinc.
At ground level, the design articulates private courtyards with transitional public areas, enhancing accessibility and permeability. A multipurpose community space is included, along with service areas (waste management, storage, bicycle parking) and two designated parking spaces for reduced mobility.
The proposal values continuity with the neighbouring buildings through proportion, rhythm, and formal restraint, ensuring urban integration while offering housing diversity through subtle variations in colour. Largo do Cabeço da Bola emerges as a meeting point — between housing, commerce, and a city in transformation.
